How We Determine Values
One of the goals of CollectorsCentral is to provide an easy to use, up to date, and highly interactive source of market values - not necessarily the traditional price guide.
We can't fully share the recipe for the "secret sauce", as it's our own proprietary formula for determining values. What we can tell you is that we combine the data from the following sources and properly weight their importance:
- We consider closing values from online auctions and exchanges.
- We consider closing values from key auction houses.
- We consider sale prices from online and offline dealers.
- We consider the opinions of our members.
You can provide us with your opinion of the item's value, and it will immediately be reflected in the presented value.
How Pricing It Works

To the left is the page with the details for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card. You'll notice this screenshot has 3 sections highlighted with boxes drawn around them:
- Market Value is represented by the blue box. Here is where logged in users may view the value of the item as determined by our system.
- Submitting your Opinion of the Price is represented by the red box. Here is where any logged user can submit their opinion of the value of the item.
It is important to note that only one opinion per user is allowed for a particular item, so any additional opinions will update the previous submission (and the value will be recaluclated).
- Adding Items to your Collection is represented by the green box. Here is where any logged user can add items to My Collection.
